You’ve been thinking it over, you’ve gone back and forth for months now, should you or shouldn’t you? I’m here to help make your decision a no-brainer. Here’s why you should get a brazilian wax.

First, just so we’re all on the same page, what is a brazilian wax?

A brazilian is a service performed by a licensed esthetician which removes the hair from the pubic bone, labia, and rear, but if you’d like to you are more than welcome to leave a strip or a triangle. A brazilian wax typically takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes and gets less and less painful the more you get them done.

What are the benefits of getting a brazilian wax?

The most obvious benefit is that you will be smoother for much longer compared to shaving. We remove the hair from the root which means it’ll take much longer to grow back compared to the traditional way of hair removal with a razor which just cuts the hair down to the level of the skin. Hair that is shaved practically grows back instantly since we’re not causing any damage to the follicle. Hair that has been waxed has to rebuild the hair and then start growing. This process can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks! With consistency, your hair may become so discouraged by getting damaged over and over again that it eventually stops growing back.

This leads me to my next point. Waxing is a semi-permanent hair removal technique. Although waxing isn’t permanent it definitely is longer-lasting than shaving and can lead to long-term results. With consistency, waxing will damage the hair follicle making your hair less likely to grow back. With each and every wax, there will be less and less hair that grows back.

If you struggle with ingrown hairs, redness, and irritation after shaving, waxing may be the perfect hair removal solution for you. Waxing, although irritating in the moment, is perfect for sensitive skin since there won’t be any sharp stubble left behind. Waxing removes the hair from the root and when the hair starts growing back you will notice how fine and feather-soft the hair is. No more itchy bikini lines, just baby-soft skin, and smooth regrowth. Not only that, but when you’re shaving your brazilian you may be doing so every 2-3 days to keep completely smooth results. With waxing, you only have to get the service done every 4-6 weeks which means way less irritation to the skin.

Last but not least, and by far my favorite benefit of getting a brazilian wax, is the instant confidence boost you’ll get. I really think that there is something to getting a service done that you may be dreading. Once you make it through the service you realize that A. It wasn’t that bad. B. You’re capable of hard things. And C. You have a secret no one else knows about & it’s so freaking empowering.

Is a brazilian wax right for you?

Now that we have gone over the benefits of brazilian waxing, let’s decide whether or not brazilian waxing is right for you. If you find yourself shaving the brazilian area at least once a week, waxing would be a great alternative for you. Waxing requires a lot less upkeep & irritation than shaving. People with busy lifestyles prefer waxing over shaving as it is one last thing for them to do on a regular basis. People in sports such as cheerleading, dancing, swimming, and gymnastics prefer waxing over shaving. People who are going on vacation, getting married, or having a baby like to get waxed rather than shave as the results are a lot smoother and last longer than shaving. If you are trying to get pregnant I would suggest getting into a good waxing routine before conceiving. Waxing tends to be more painful when you are pregnant so getting used to the discomfort as well as thinning out your pubic hair prior to the fluctuation in hormones is a great idea.

It is important to keep in mind that waxing isn’t for everyone. Here’s why:

Waxing requires a good aftercare routine. You will get the best results from waxing by keeping up with at-home care and being consistent with your appointments. If you aren’t going to put in the effort to keep up your smooth results with at-home care, waxing probably isn’t for you. A consistent at-home routine as well as a regular waxing schedule is very important. We recommend when starting out with waxing that you come in every 4 weeks for the first 6 months to a year then after your hair growth cycles get synced up you will be able to back off and get waxed every 5-6 weeks. Most clients prefer every 4 weeks for the best results.
One last factor that might discourage you from waxing is the cost. Waxing isn’t the cheapest form of hair removal & getting a quality wax does come with a premium cost. If you want to commit to waxing, first make sure that it fits into your budget. You can look into memberships, referrals, and loyalty programs which may decrease your monthly cost. All in all, I hope you decide to get waxed. Brazilian waxing has literally changed my life, so much so that I don’t even own a razor.
